Starfield Was a Mistake | An Analytical Review
From the makers of Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls: Blades, and The Elder Scrolls: Castles, comes Bethesda Softworks' most ambitious RPG yet: STARFIELD. A game DESIGNED to be played for a DECADE.
In this analytical review/deconstruction/retrospective, I look at how Bethesda utterly fails to make Starfield about anything. How they demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the type of game they are trying to make, the genres it inhabits, market trends and advancements, and even what made their past games like Skyrim successful. As a result, Starfield turned out to be a joyless, soulless, bland mess of disjointed ideas that ended up disappointing pretty much everyone, Microsoft included.

Cities: Skylines is not another "good with mods" game. The vanilla game is really good. Perhaps too good. | Released in 2015, Colossal Order's Cities: Skylines seemingly overnight supplanted SimCity as the supreme city building game on the market. 8 Years later and it's finally done receiving DLC and content updates with a sequel Cities: Skylines II on the way. Seems to be the perfect time to r...

Starfield is a bad game. Forgettable story, outdated gameplay, non working exploration and technologically weak. It's inferior to Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate in every aspect.

02:08:11 hey buddy I know it has been a year but there is a reason why the dragon born can read the scroll its even in a ingame book about the scrolls. The Dragonborn cant understand the scroll and is elder scroll reading whise on the bottom of the skillfloor which means they cant gain or loose anything from those scrolls thats why we had to do so much preparartions when it came to the Dawnguard ones.

I had never tried doing sword and board as a build until my most recent play through and I have to say it’s quickly become my favorite playstyle. It’s sliced up my gameplay routine quite a bit. Previously I would gravitate towards stealth archer or conjurer, ultimately trivializing the majority of encounters while I either insta kill targets from stealth or sit back and let my atronochs/zombies mop the floor with my enemies. When my first ever play through involved duel wielding and always getting my power attacks interrupted before getting any of the good offensive/defensive perks, I dropped melee immediately, but sword and board made me rethink the way I fight in melee. I absolutely love blocking, fighting giants once was hard in melee but after putting the time in, being able to shield bash them, slow time when blocking or just charge and knock over enemies, it’s so much fun, I feel like a juggernaut

Bethesda has become so scared of locking players out of content that the game falls apart at a fundamental level. We can make multiple characters, Todd; we don’t have to see everything in the game on the first go.

Shepard didn't kill Saren in ME1, since he was already dead during the boss battle. He killed Sovereign, not his physical platform but its code (since it is an AI).

There's in fact a mission in the Armax Arsenal Arena with more than 3 rounds and with all super elite enemies spawning at once. It might be just me but I thought it was pretty impossible to beat on insanity and it was the only mission in the whole series I used a cheat for. (I usually use cheats playing the Pinnacle Station missions as well, but not because they are too difficult but because I am a completionist that thinks the whole DLC is boring, tedious and stupid, and after all cheating in a simulator is possible even irl. ;D)

Tali and Raan weren't "caught in the middle" during the Quarian-Geth-conflict. Raan voted in favour of the attack and Tali against it, so it is really Koris and Tali against the rest of the admirals. That is stated multiple times in various dialogues.

Wrex didn't change for the worse in ME3 and I really like his character growth. He started out as a cynical and pessimistic character and over time and I like to think due to a bit of positive influence from Shepard, he became an optimist who rediscovered joy in his life - and his inner Krogan.

Even though I - like you - really love the character growth of Jack in ME3, her story in the third game is one of the most ridiculous and most unbelievable turns of events in the whole trilogy and to this day I really struggle to take it seriously. Are we really led to believe, that a wanted mass murderer and terrorist with a proven mental instability is allowed to be a teacher??? That's like combinding Osama bin Laden and Hannibal Lector and making him a teacher. Don't get me wrong, we as players know that Jack isn't a bad person below her rough surface, but are we really expected to believe that the Alliance would just ignore her background because she "has a heart of gold" while putting Shepard on trial for simply being associated with a terrorist group but not even being involved in any terrorist acts (quiet die opposite actually)?? BTW putting Shepard on trial did not make sense anyway since the Alliance has no jurisdiction over spectres and Shepard in ME3 is a spectre regardless of your actions in ME2 since the council never formerly revoked your spectre status to begin with. Also every supposed crime Shepard commited during ME2 was outside Alliance space and with no Alliance citizens involved, so they had no jurisdiction anyway.

Bailey isn't nor was he ever the head of C-Sec. Why do you think finding the C-Sec executor is one of our main objectives during the Citadel coup? Also what makes you think that the C-Sec Academy is the same as C-Sec HQ? The former is in the wards and the latter is on the Presidium.

Where is the retcon in the Mars archives? I don't get it. They just found more Prothean relics nearby a already known digside. That happen's literally all the time. Take the first remains of Neanderthals found and described from Germany. It took them a 150 years to find the rest of it, even though they knew the location. Or take Pompeii: they are excavating the side for 400 years now and still make new discoveries every few years or so and they still didn't discover all of the city.

My theory on Aranea telling you to go to Winterhold is that the vision meant to lead you to the dungeon but she misunderstood. Which I think is a clever piece of writing

In ME2 the only Alliance officers of which we know the opinion on the Reapers of, are Anderson and Hackett and neither of them deny their existence. We never never hear an official stance of the Alliance up until ME3. Also it would be hard to deny their existence once they're already here, wouldn't you say? I don't see what's hard to understand there.

I don't know what you mean, the voice acting in ME3 is among the best in the entire trilogy in my opinion, especially maleshep. ME1 was the game with the overall worst voice acting (mostly because of bad direction or editing), with many sudden and weird moodshifts and some dialogue that felt like it has been read from a cartboard (---> especially all the dialogue between Benezia and Liara and Benezia in particular). Also the exact thing you said about ME3 I felt about ME1: huge junks of the dialogue made it very apparent that the voice actors weren't even in the same room and all of the dialogue had an obvious "recording booth sound".

I think rather than not taking itself seriously, what they need is to lower the stakes. High stakes encourages the player to rush through a given story and this puts too much pressure on the writing. If the writing encourages the player to take the quest at their own pace, then the writing problems don't pile as high and don't matter as much. Death of major characters also feels cheap if it isn't earned, so should only be done when it's built up to. I think Mirabell's death in particular was pointless. That isn't to say you should *never* have high stakes, but the stakes need room to breathe. They should be built up to. If I were put in charge of faction questlines, I would have a series of low stakes episodic adventures that let us get to know our fellow members. Then have a few major quests with higher stakes once the player is more established in the faction. Your fellow faction members come with you to this or that dungeon, and stuff happens that showcases different aspects of the faction. Their relations with other factions, their internal politics, what they generally spend resources doing. Then once you're a higher rank, you can go on a higher stakes questline wherein at most the faction's existence is at stake. World ending stakes should be reserved for the main story, if you have them at all.

It's quite amusing! Your initial description of the game had me intrigued. The idea of a game where you're led to believe you're the chosen one, only to have that illusion shattered at the end, revealing that you were actually being manipulated and coerced into doing the bidding of wealthy terrorists, is quite ironic. (And yes, I'm aware that 'rich terrorists' is a complete tautology.)
